TCOMHappy Holidays from New Jersey!
written by: Kenneth McGill

The ‘Holiday Season’ is well in progress and the wrap-up of 2016 is near!  Looking back…what are some of the highlights you want to remember…are there things you would like to soon forget…what do you have planned for the New Year? Well enough introspection. My hope and wishes to you all are for a truly relaxing enjoyable time of year. So while you are writing down your ‘New Year’s Resolutions’ you can also take time to enjoy the IMDS Winter 2016 Newsletter!

These past few months of 2016 have been packed with amazing activities, including the New Jersey Children’s System of Care 15 Year Anniversary Conference and the TCOM Conference held in NEW JERSEY!!! It was awesome that New Jersey hosted the conference November 16th through the 18th at the Westin Princeton at Forrestal Village, Princeton. If you attended you experienced first-hand the collaborative spirit of both presenters and attendees from all across the US, Canada and around the world. So it was apropos that the theme of the conference focused on ’Collaboration: Engagement, Teaming and System Integration.’ However, if you were not able to attend, then you can go directly to or click here to open up the post conference book!. Planning for 2017 TCOM Conference has already begun and it will be held in San Antonio Texas!

In keeping with a New Year theme, the Strengths & Needs 2.0 and Crisis Assessment Tool 2.0 have arrived. As of December 1, 2016 the updated tools and their usage went into effect. These changes are monumental marking a significant revision to both of the tools, which have been in place for 15 years. There are many of us, and our staff, that have become so accustomed to each of the items, in the format or order they have been placed over time. The updates/revisions offer all of us a renewed fresh perspective and remind us that it is a conversation to be had with those we serve. I encourage all to examine and digest the nuances, review each item and its definition to capture these changes. We must remind everyone that these revisions were done to best serve the children/youth and families in our system of care.

Thank you again for the work that you do in assisting the children/youth and their families in meeting their needs and goals!

Happy Holidays to All!
