Defenestration

 Although technically, defenestration is something that appears to happen to some Russian Oligarchs, the word is often used in a broader sense.   

In the TCOM space, defenestration is the process that leads to a lack of leadership continuity in the public helping sectors. Each time a new governor takes office, they defenestrate most of the leadership in the helping sectors. Worse than that, when bad outcomes occur, a Governor’s office will often be tempted to publicly defenestrate leadership to show the public that they are on top of fixing any problem that might have resulted in the bad outcome, even if defenestration of leadership disrupts the system’s ability to effectively address the problem. This is one of the reasons that the average tenure of a state child welfare director in the US is only 18 months. They are hired with great hope and fanfare but given the challenges of the work, defenestration in a common final official act.
